The Thai dub unit Jonathan And Calvin once again asserts its presence through their latest release, “Big Up”—a dub remix reinterpreted by Million Cat Hi Fi.

The track arrives as a marker of the collective’s decade-long journey in nurturing and expanding dub traditions beyond the increasingly dynamic global epicenters.

“Big Up” is built upon a high-energy dub steppa foundation, delivering a rhythmic structure that is both driving and atmospheric. In the production process, Million Cat Hi Fi deliberately emphasizes rougher, heavier, and thicker variables, clearly redefining the original material into something primed to turn both modern dancefloors and traditional sound system sessions into full-blown celebrations.

This release also serves as the first teaser from the upcoming album “Born To Be Sound” System, a project conceived as both an ideological and musical manifesto reflecting their ten-year journey—a project brimming with promise.

“Big Up” may well signal the beginning of a new phase, or serve as a clear sign that a new album is on its way—while simultaneously standing as a celebration of their 10-year path. One thing, however, is certain: they represent a story from Thailand that proves sound system culture in Southeast Asia continues to light its fire.
