Tony Q Rastafara “Tragedi”

Tony Q has released ‘Tragedi,’ which is available on various digital music platforms and premiered on his YouTube channel on February 13, 2024. This allegorical tune similar to the satirical ‘Animal Farm’ story is deliberately released a day before the date of the Indonesian presidential election so that it becomes a material for contemplation for the audience in Indonesia.

Lyrically, Tony is known to be very empathetic and concerned with various social and political aspects in society which he consistently voices through his songs. His mission is to make reggae as a medium of preaching, a vehicle to inspire, educate the fans and even to rebuke the corrupt ‘Babylon system’. Reggae music for Mas Tony is definitely not neutral because it sides with the unprivileged and specifically advocates those who are oppressed and disadvantaged by the system. That is a definite attitude that is consistently and full of integrity shown through his works and attitudes.

The song begins with a resounding ‘siren’ sound calling out ‘danger’ or alert for the onslaught of dogs, pigs, monkeys, rats, snakes and crocodiles.  Conceptually, the collection of these animals is indeed a metaphor representing the greedy and corrupt characterization of the anonymous character who becomes the target of criticism in this song. However, anyone who has sensitivity can definitely relate to the message to be conveyed here. It is hoped that this song can be an entertainment as well as an education for ‘manteman’ and the people in general. May peace and justice always overshadow our beloved country, Peace, Yo Man!
