The Gravelites “Outta Devil’s Gate”

The Gravelites, a retro Jamaican sound unit from the city of Salatiga, returns with a new creation. Released on March 8th, the track titled “Outta Devil’s Gate” is a single that – as usual – comes highly recommended from us.

Continuing with the same style since their debut album “7 Deadly Skank!”, sophomore album “Get It On”, and single “Summon The Soul”, The Gravelites maintain their hybrid style with nostalgia through meticulous sound arrangements. Adya, the songwriter and sound arranger for The Gravelites, is so conscientious in duplicating classic ska-reggae repertoire into their compositions so far, which, of course, is captivating!

“Outta Devil’s Gate” is a 3:25 seconds musical journey guided by The Gravelites with their wisdom about accuracy of intensity in loudness and happiness. The foundation of major chords opened by the fancy of drum snares invites us to dive into the ‘Ram Jam’ organ melody a la Salatiga, polished perfectly by the presence of vocals from the champion, Tuan Jenggo!

One special thing about this single is the lyrics department with a Patois dialect carrying a crucial message. In short, listening to “Outta Devil’s Gate” is like embarking on an important tour to Brentford Road with The Gravelites while carefully listening to the fundamental insight of Neil Postman’s “The Disappearance of Childhood” inna Tuan Jenggo’s stylee.
