The movement of a global-scale Jamaican music-themed festival has come back to life in various countries after a long break from the pandemic situation. One of them is an event from Thailand. From 10 to 11 December 2022, a Jamaican sound system and camping culture festival “Sub Camp Festival 2022” was held in Saraburi – Thailand. A number of local acts from Thailand and foreign line ups also enlivened the party initiated by Topcat Organizer & Gonja Hi Fi.
It takes about a 2 hours road trip from Bangkok – Thailand to get to the venue of “Sub Camp Festival 2022”. The Saraburi area – Thailand is a favorite camping area for local residents. Not only music, this festival also serves other acts, such as Film, Food & Beverage and a variety of merchandise sales.
On the first day, the party was opened at 16:00 by a selector from Germany, Jan Lorenz, with a roots reggae setlist. Then it was continued by Kelly K, a selector from Bangkok who played a collection of vinyl records, before Dr. The Pookster was back with his experimental set. The night heated up with musical accompaniment brought by the female selector, Sista Zine, with a dub steppa setlist, which was followed by the same vibe by Selecta G, and MC Zen Note who then joined the two of them. Two DJs from England, DJ Animal and Mista C, were closing the first day with their jungle/drum n bass setlist together with Random Sound System nicely.
Papa Egg opens the second day at 14:00 pm followed by DJ Steve Spiral from the UK. Next, the local dub act, Chatty D Roy and Binlhajazz (saxophone) took their turn with their best set. King Kong Killa and Lazlo Legezer turn the night into heat. DJ Sticky Keys with Jonathan and Calvin and the dance group Snake Eyes, lit the fire more through the thumping bass from mighty speakers. “Sub Camp 2022” closed with a performance by the Indonesian dub selector, Yella Sky Sound System.
