Abresso‘s radiance still exists. The vibration and legacy keep ‘gwan’ through the lead vocalist, Dommy Fenetiruma. He has just released a new single entitled ‘Mama Papua’ in late July on his youtube channel. Despite the fact that now he has joined Papua Original, he kept on carrying the spirit of Abresso in every single he did in his solo project. ‘Mama Papua’ is actually one of the tracks in Abresso’s 2nd album which has never been released. It was sung by the late Akon Bonay, the bassist under the title ‘Mama’.
The music composition and arrangement of this version is quite different from the previous one with the Midas touch by Richard Xaverius a.k.a Papa Ical, the ex-member of Ras Muhamad’s Easy Skanking band. Listening to the bassline and strong voice of Dommy it reminds us of ‘Vision’ by Quinno of Big Mountain featuring Black Sistaz.
Mama Papua is Dommy’s expression of love and appreciation to his mother and mothers or women in Papua in general who selflessly and with tender love give their best for their children. The same tone of appreciation he gave to his wife as well, Sherly ‘Dede’ Kbarek who also took part in this single as backing vocal. Salute to Dommy’s true compassion and integrity. Keep working and creating to enrich reggae music in Indonesia.
