Yugo Taguchi

Yugo Taguchi has emerged as a cross-continental connector working between tradition and modernity. Born in Yokohama and now based in Berlin, he is known as a selector, MC, and singjay who remains actively involved in sound system sessions, approaching music as a practical medium for cultural exchange.

Since 2004, he has been part of Delta Force Sound, a formative foundation that shaped his musical path through the core frequencies of reggae and dancehall. A decade later, he expanded his artistic outlook through his involvement with Roots Temple JP.

A pivotal chapter in his journey unfolded in London, a city long regarded as a hub of the Caribbean diaspora. There, he immersed himself directly in the UK reggae ecosystem, building organic relationships while working within living archives such as the legendary Supertone record shop in Brixton.

An encounter with Chazbo Chong opened a more collaborative phase. Upon returning to Japan, Yugo initiated a Japanese tour with the Bush Chemists crew and facilitated local circulation for artists such as Kenny Knots and Carl Meeks. He also broadened his network by curating sessions for Naram of Jahtari.

In the field of production, he has released work alongside Kris Kemist and established ties with the Reality Shock family in Reading. Today, his work moves across a spectrum ranging from digital dancehall to more contemplative roots expressions, including collaborations with Well Well Sound from Paris.

With mobility spanning Europe and extending onto global stages, Yugo stands as one of Asia’s active representatives within the global Jamaican Sound sphere.
