Massaia DUBkillah is the moniker from Elex, one of the dedicated Reggae Dub cultural activists from Queretaro, Mexico. Elex has started his passion since 1998. He has played for several Reggae bands in his city such as Green Olive and Junkunus.
From 2001 to 2008, he shared the national class gigs with legendary groups such as Jah Works, Webcam Hi Fi, Indica Dubs, Weeding Dub, Haspar, Brother Culture, Bukkha, Dubstuy, OBF, Mr Zebre and Jah Massive. It was this experience that brought him to the international Dub event in Mexico.
In 2013, Elex officially ran his own dub steppa power called Massaia DUBkillah. The music unit which then encouraged him to build the Sound System with the ‘Do It Yourself’ ethos.
In 2020, Massaia DUBKillah released their debut EP entitled “Revolutionary Sound Army.” Set of releases featuring the big names from international sound systems acts such as Blackout JA, Fitta Warri, Ras Demo (aka Demolition Man), Lisa Dainjah, Lengualerta and Mowty Mahlyka (aka Dark Angel). This was followed by the release of the “Revolutionary Sound Army” (dub version). An updated version featuring 18 songs which were performed by international artists such as Krak in Dub, Bukkha, Kutral Dub, Mr Zebre, Bukkha, Mexican Stepper and Iron Dubz!
After the success of these two releases, Maissaia DUBkillah released “Freedom & Justice” on November 24, 2021 through the influential French dub label, Culture Dub Records. This Sophomore album is a manifestation of Militant Dub, Revolutionary Dub and Heavyweight Dub Steppa from Maissaia DUBkillah. This time he brings 14 songs (7 original tracks and 7 reworked tracks), he was supported by many great musicians such as Hornsman Coyote, Sis Irecla, Jah Rain, Mr Williamz, Troy Berkley, Soom T and Chazbo, an album which tailored exclusively for Sound System. The album was also supported by Mexican Stepper (mixing) and the well known Neil Perch (of Zion Train) who did the mastering.
