This ska outfit from the city of Semarang is one of the most interesting ska units. Their music journey started from the activities of 2 Universities in the city, UPGRIS (Universitas PGRI Semarang) and UNNES (Universitas Negeri Semarang) which later they used as the name of this band, Grisness Culture.
They explained on their promo kit that their biggest influence came from ska/rocksteady bands from Japan. As a manifestation of the word “culture” that they chose, a culture of ska for Grisness Culture.
Formed since 2015, they have released their debut “Kembang Pujaan” in 2018. They also released three music videos from the album consecutively. Since then, they have been actively spreading their music by conducting tours and showcases to various cities such as Demak, Kendal, Batang, Surakarta, Bandung and also Jakarta. They were even involved in an online “Asian Ska Community Festival” which was initiated by an international ska collective from Latin America in 2021.
With a 6 line up of Gemilang (Vocalist), Adam (Guitar), Abram (Bass), Gama (Keyboard), Cuenk (Drums), and Wildan (Trumpet), they did their own interpretation of ska and adding an infusion of Indonesian flavors through classic Indonesian vocabulary about romance, A pop style in ska.
