Glorious Friends

Another ska outfit from the city of Malang, East Java. A power quintet that presents a repertoire with an infusion of Indonesian oldies with traditional elements of ska, rocksteady and reggae. This outfit, Glorious Friends, is also influenced by the vibes from the ska bands known as the 4th wave of ska movement such as Hepcat, The Slackers, Mimi Maura and also Rugged Road, the album from The Aggrolites.

In early 2014, one of Malang’s ska finest was formed. The original line up at that time was Rizqi (vocals and guitar), Hans (guitar) Risco (trombone), Ardi (trumpet), Devin (drums), Ixshan (bass), and Reymond (keyboard). At that time Glorious Friends was a side project. They say that the name is about the spirit of togetherness and in the spirit of a family.

In 2016, the Glorious Friends lineup expanded with changes and new additional personnels. Rizqi moved to become a bassist, Devin’s change to a guest drummer and Alif on guitar with two Backing Vocals Monic & Iren. From this line up exchange, in 2017 Glorious Friends released a single in the music video format called “320”.

In 2018, the line up underwent another change, Glorious Friends continued to run even without a bass player and drummer, but they were backed up by Bayu as a keyboard player. A year later, in 2019, on their debut album “Titik Terang” was released with Monic (vocals), Hans (rhythm guitar), Alif (lead guitar), Bayu (keyboard), Ardi (trumpet), and Risco (trombone) on the line up.

Now in 2020, this power quintet from Malang consists of singers Monic & Iren and Rizqi (guitar and vocals) Ardi (trumpet) and Rizco on the trombone.

Since 2014 until now, Glorious Friends have been featured in plentiful gigs, not just in the city of Malang, they expanded to many cities in Indonesia. So far they have released the single “Dance Free”, they were also taking part in a “Record Store Day” compilation in Malang, then released a very limited demo for free, as well as their debut LP entitled “Titik Terang” in 2019.

Glorious friends is one of the fancy ska units from the city of Malang, with them we can enjoy a little “Alpharians” atmosphere within “Indonesian Evergreen” vibes and of course dancing happily.
