Aldy Down

Grew up from the Jamaican Sound scene in the city of Bogor – Indonesia, he is not only active in his arts. Among other things, he was a part of the “skartefak”, one of ska  collective in the country who deliver the news and story of Indonesian ska through their official website. He is also one of the drivers of various ska collectives in the city of Bogor until now.

His musical journey began in 2009 when he was known as Aldy Brother with the band called Brother John. Before he decided to go solo in 2012. Having been on hiatus for a while, he then returned with the name Aldy Down (The Downbeat a.k.a Mr. Downbeat) in 2016 with a song called ‘Alone’. A song that he worked on with his long time collaborator, John Dewa.

His music is influenced by names such as Alton Ellis, Delroy Wilson, Dawn Penn, Leroy Sibbles, Ken Boothe, and Derrick Morgan. So far he has released various singles and a debut album ‘Rocksteady Got Soul!’ in 2018. And in August 2021 he streamed 6 sets of singles through his bandcamp.
