A tranquilising English chanteuse, Hollie Cook, is back with her new work. She officially released her fourth full-length album, “Happy Hour” on June 24, 2022.
Hollie Cook opened this album with “Happy Hour” with the steppers beats, which was sweetly wrapped by her magnifique vocal charm, which always succeeded to be an unforgettable tranquilizer. This is an interesting feature from Cook who brings a new and freshy horizon for a lovers rock package.
She also embeds an enchanting harmonization through her vocals and the fancy strings layers, which are then firmly closed by the echo-and-delay-laden that scatters in “Moving On”.
As a co-producer with Luke Allwood and Ben Mckone (General Roots), Cook still kept her tropical signature, she did a soothing yet powerful acrobat here and there through this LP. Tenderly, her vocals walk side by side with the solid bass line, and the melodious chord progressions too. “Kush Kween,” her collaboration with Jah9 who previously released as a single, could prove it. The luxurious touch of brass in the intro “Unkind Love” is perfectly attached by their low frequencies that accompany with the soft reese bass until the end of the song. “Gold Girl” and “Move My Way” simultaneously emphasize the alternative horizons of lovers rock in the version of Hollie Cook by the ambience of classic British film soundtrack.
Cook was backed up by Janine Cunningham (“Kush Kween”) and Maverick Saber (“Move My Way”) in the lyrics department. Something that also deserves to be underlined as one of the elements that can complete the special-ness in this “Happy Hour”.
At the end of this 9 track LP, “Praying” features the great producer Dennis Bovell who lends his genius to Cook. A solemn chant that slowly elevates the serenity of the previous 8 songs.
The latest album by the daughter of powerful drummer Paul Cook (Sex Pistols), is one of the LPs that must be listened to. We happily recommend this album to you!
