March 1, 2024 saw the release of a split single titled “Between Major and Minor” by South Korean music label, Eastern Standard Sound. This joint effort featured two musical acts: Badmintones hailing from Tangerang, Indonesia, and The Reseters, a boss reggae ensemble based in Seoul, South Korea.
The Reseters kicked off with their track “Mafia“, drawing inspiration from the iconic film “The Godfather”. Infused with minor chords that evoke profound emotion, this song serves as a strong testament to the sound of boss reggae music.
Meanwhile, Badmintones concluded the split with “You Make Sad And Happy“, which delves into the emotional struggle of individuals who frequently oscillate between sadness and happiness, albeit often succumbing to sadness. Infused with uplifting major chords, this song embodies an intriguing harmony within its early reggae style.
Badmintones, led by Husnayyyyyyy, as a solo project from Tangerang, Indonesia. He is a member of the 9 piece ska ensemble “The Regards,” whose recognition soared with the release of their debut EP “Don’t Give Up” in 2022 under C19 Records. The EP showcased thick instrumental compositions rooted in the rocksteady and early reggae from the 60s and 70s.
On the other hand, The Reseters are the only unique boss reggae sound outfit from Seoul, South Korea. They have been performing together since 2018, appearing in various reggae and rock shows. Their discography includes several releases, such as the double single “Pin up/Like Adam and Eve” (2020), the EP “I Left My Love On Frontline 내 사랑은최전방에” (2021), as well as their debut LP “Give Me a Blue Beat” (2023) and the latest single “The Cat” (2023).
The collaboration between Badmintones and The Reseters in this split single “Between Major and Minor” brings forth an intriguing harmony to the Southeast Asian music scene. And of course, it’s already available on various digital streaming platforms.
