Red-I

The hype of dub music in Southeast Asia is increasingly growing from time to time. We can see this through the number of musicians and producers who release their works. A positive signal for one of the Jamaican Sound nexus that has been on fire since the mid-2000s.

One of the dub acts which is also part of the movement for this Southeast Asia’s scene is Red-I. A selector from Manila, Philippines. Through dub steppers, he brings the identity of his works which are synonymous with strong basslines. His bright career began in 2012 with his debut album “Jahdgement Day” on vinyl. In 2018, he produced riddim for “Natty Dread I Beat”, a single from Ras Taro in collaboration with Papa U Gee & Ras Kanto. Then in a row, he released two powerful EPs “Mystic Revelation” and “Kings Music” in 2019. Then his full album “Word Sound Power” in 2020, followed by a dub version of this LP. An album that includes many scenesters such as  King Spade, Lady I, Brother Culture, Camoi and Ras Taro. Recently, Red-I collaborated with one of the living legends from Jamaica, Ranking Joe, through the EP “Killademic”.

Red-I has performed at many world-class festivals. He shared the stage with prominent names, such as Ziggy Marley, Vibronics, Echo Ranks, Mighty Crown, Million Stylez and others.

Apart from being a musician, Red-I also a pioneer behind the well established weekly Jamaican music party in the Philippines, “Irie Sunday Manila”.
