The vibrancy of cultural sound system actions across various corners of Indonesia is flourishing. The emergence of selectors with powerful track selections, closely side by side with DJ, producers as well as soloists or groups in Live PA style, is a positive development that brings diversity of expression to the local Jamaican music scene with fresh colors. One such example comes from the city of Surabaya – Indonesia, Mote Soundsystem.

This Jamaican sound trio, embracing the live PA format, was formed around 2020, led by Arsyad (DJ), Glaop, and Iddo, who acts as MC and effector. Their blending of Dub, Reggae, Rocksteady, and Lovers Rock style reflects the colors they choose to share with the audience.

In 2023, Mote Soundsystem released a “Voyager” EP  containing 4 tracks. Following that year, they also released a single set titled “Bitter To Dub You.” This then was followed by a single “Merusak kesenangan,” a collaboration with Dongker in January 2024.
