Daddy Freddy, an important figure in the world of jamaican sound, is a man who grew up in the city of Kingston. He is the fastest rapper in the Guinness Book of World Records. He started his career at a young age. Starting when he started performing with his uncle’s sound system set. Later joined by Lt. Stitchie and as a milestone, he joined Sugar Minott. It was with Sugar Minott that Freddy got great attention from the Jamaican public and of course the UK (after he toured). His first debut was released in 1985, the work he did under the pioneer’s legendary label; Clement “Coxsone” Dodd, the one and only Studio One.
Freddy fantastically established himself as one of the important elements in the development of this Jamaican music. He started a work that uses the foundation of the monumental riddim “Under Mi Sleng Teng”, this single is entitled “Zoo Party”. This, then was followed by Body Lasher‘s Hit album which contained 6 of the 10 biggest hits in Jamaica in 1986. Including the hit “Joker Lover,” which topped the charts!
In 1987, Freddy returned to Great Britain, in this era he got a contract with the label Music of Life and he collaborated with producer Asher D. Freddy produced an album which was noted as the first work to bring a cross between dancehall toasting and hip-hop, then this type of composition is known as ‘Raggamuffin Hip-Hop’, a term taken from the album’s title he made, his breakthrough!
Since then, he has continued to work and has also performed many stage acts. Among them he has collaborated with Go West, Meli’sa Morgan, and Beats International (A Norman Cook‘s pre-Fatboy Slim project). In fact, big names like Dr. Dre, Cypress Hill, The Prodigy, Salt N ‘Pepa and KRS-One asked him to collaborate or use samples from Freddy in their work.
He had a chance to “break” after his last album The Big One in the 1980s. In 2000, Freddy returned to work, this time with a new twist from the result of musical developments, starting from Jungle, Dub/Dubstep or Breakbeats. He made this comeback by inviting top ranking names, including Congo Natty, Mungos Hifi, Rootsman, Panda Dub and Wizard.
Until now, in addition to being listed as a world record owner with the ability to pronounce 500 syllables per minute from the Guinness Book of World Records, Daddy Freddy has produced more than 80 albums and singles.
