One of the figures that we would like to recommend to our friends in this edition is a unique action which comes with its sublime and strong messages from Africa.

They call themselves Chebeen Teriya, a music project initiated and led by a well cultured figure from Burkina Faso, Dramane Bakwan.

Dramane started his passion for music by studying the many rhythms and melodies from African native tradition. From a young age, he has actively participated in the sacred tradition of Gourounsi (West Africa). Which then later inspired him to write his music. 

As a frontman, Dramane wrote for Chebeen Teriya extensively. He speaks up about social issues in Africa, where he wrote his lyrics in Dyula and five other languages. A true manifestation of love from Dramane for Mama Africa.

Chebeen Teriya have released their discography through a forward-thinking outernational dub label from Cyprus, Dubophonic Records so far. In 2021, Chebeen Teriya released the EP Ajabro. Where he has the support of one of Cyprus’ rising dubmasters, Sub Conscious Dub. And in 2022, Chebeen Teriya brings their full album entitled Douhau.

“Douhau” (which means blessing) is an inspiring set from Chebeen Teriya. With afro funk in reggae infusion, the repertoire in “Douhau” tells about hypocrisy in politics, also about respect for a culture in life, and about love for Africa and the world, a very strong and beautiful message indeed.
