Adi Uye

Globalization and modernity have inevitably blended various forms of cultural expression. Aesthetic preferences and meanings are imprinted through enculturation, which is the inheritance of culture through adaptation and hybridisation that is fun and enjoyable. In this time Kultur would love to present a figure who infuses elements of traditional music into the strains of reggae which is also strengthened through his performative actions that have generated their own unique exoticism.

He is bli I Wayan Adi Putra from Uluwatu, Bali, known by his moniker Adi Uye. The reggae musician who always promotes Indonesia and Bali as well as the messages of peace, harmony with others and the universe admitted that he has been making music since 2003. Bli Adi started his musical adventure with the Ulu Roots group that regularly played in cafes and clubs in the Pecatu area, Uluwatu. After that he formed the group The Binghi with whom he began to create original works by incorporating traditional instruments such as rindik and suling which are commonly used in religious ceremonies in Bali. In addition to that, in his stage acts and video clips, bli Adi often wears masks and performs ‘ngibing’ movements, which according to him in traditional Balinese events is an interactive invitation for the spectators to dance along.

In 2024 bli Adi and Richo (flute & lead guitar player) decided to leave The Binghi and collaborate with DJ Martin Culture who is a music producer. Together they have worked on a number of nicest repertoires that can be enjoyed on various DSPs. Some have even been in video clip format which although done simply but with good quality and can be enjoyed on YouTube channels.

Bli Adi is very productive even though he only released 1 LP Album ‘Cinta Natural’ (12 songs) while with The Binghi but his singles catalog has now reached dozens. Marking Adi Uye’s new musical journey in early 2024, the three released a number of singles that were worked on during the pandemic, including: ‘Bahagia,’ ‘Selamat Datang di Nusantara,’ and ‘Melayang.’ The song ‘Selamat Datang di Nusantara’ specifically emphasizes Adi Uye’s uniqueness and authenticity with Balinese elements that convey the message of Indonesia’s motto ‘Bhinneka Tunggal Ika’, unity in diversity.

What a classy treat that is highly recommended for you to listen to!
