Taiwan holds an important pulse in the development of Asian sound system culture through Formosa Sound System. Based in Tainan since 2019, the collective was born from the drive to build their own sound equipment from scratch — threading reggae tradition together with a push toward contemporary bass exploration. Archi and Siong as sound men are the engine behind it all, alongside Zoe holding down visuals and social media, with documentation support from Butthead. For this crew, sound system is a space for sharing knowledge, building community, and keeping a cultural medium in motion.
Every piece of Formosa‘s equipment is designed and built entirely by hand — one hundred percent. The configuration runs five output channels with thick sub bass pressure, a drum hit that lands full and physical, and a frequency character tuned specifically for reggae, dub, and bass music. From Tainan, the crew actively takes their system across cities in Taiwan, building their network through shows, selector sessions, and collaborations with fellow bass music practitioners.
