Fresh Drop Recap #5

1
Sentimental Moods Double Single “Dua Sisi”

Jakarta-based ska-jazz band Sentimental Moods returns with a fresh release, “Dua Sisi.” This project features two new singles that represent their musical journey after more than a decade of consistency in the independent scene. With arrangements that are both energetic and reflective, “Dua Sisi” demonstrates how Sentimental Moods can celebrate party music through highly musical compositions. This release serves as a reminder that in Indonesia, ska remains alive, relevant, and enduring since it first appeared decades ago. For longtime listeners and new fans alike, “Dua Sisi” is an invitation from this dynamic outfit to dive into their collective groove filled with stirring brass sections.

Dub FX & Woodnote LP “Open Secret Society”

For nearly two decades, Dub FX and Woodnote have harnessed frequency and resonance as a medium to awaken consciousness and uplift the spirit. From September to December 2025, they return with a European tour that is more than just a string of shows—it marks the launch of a movement: “Open Secret Society.”

Unlike the restrictive nature of a so-called “secret society,” this community is built on openness, unity, and the belief that music has the power to expand minds while challenging the status quo. In the midst of a shallow mainstream culture, they carve out an authentic space for music lovers hungry for meaning. To stand in their audience is to become part of a wave of social change.

Ras Muhamad x Radit Echoman Single “Song Of Freedom”

Responding to Bob Marley's call to join the struggle for peace, justice, and freedom through song, two Indonesian reggae musicians, Ras Muhamad and Radit Echoman, have collaborated to release a new single titled “Songs of Freedom.” The song serves as both a reflection and an expression of optimism in celebrating the 80th anniversary of the Republic of Indonesia.

The intertextuality of two songs spanning countries and eras is connected through the lyrics “Won’t you help to sing these songs of freedom.” The echoes of dubstep accompany the melody and rhythm, resonating like a blazing fire, igniting the spirit of celebrating both personal and national freedom.

Ras Muhamad is arguably a conscious reggae musician through his explosive and educational lyrics, and he is selective in choosing his collaborators. Radit Echoman has unique and brilliant qualities. Radit is not only a singer and songwriter, but also a multi-instrumentalist and the only live dub performer in Indonesia. Unlike a DJ, he manipulates sound directly on stage using effects like echo, delay, and reverb, making him both an audio engineer and a performer in one.

The fusion of musical and lyrical intelligence is evident in the song “Songs of Freedom,” which inherits the legacy at the core of reggae aesthetics. Through this collaboration, Ras Muhamad and Radit Echoman invite all Indonesians, especially music lovers, to sing along and voice the true meaning of freedom.

Alien Punk Single “Musik Gembira”

Alien Punk officially releases the single “Musik Gembira” under Paradisa Record. After a long journey of learning and exploration, this piece arrives with a reggae touch and a slight of experimentation. “Musik Gembira” delivers an atmosphere of freedom of expression, aiming to bring positive energy.

Through “Musik Gembira,” Alien Punk invites listeners to set aside life’s burdens for a while, drift with the rhythm, and embrace the joyful vibrations born from the music itself.

Big Lion Single "Wonderful Day"

Big Lion Music has officially dropped its latest single “Wonderful Day”, a track born from a long creative journey that began in 2020 and finally reached completion in 2025. The song stands as a small celebration: a simple yet meaningful call to be grateful for each day given, because in the spirit of reggae, every day carries the potential to be a blessed one.

Behind the process is the touch of Gasa Riddim a.k.a. Freed Gasa as producer, with Monty Louloulia delivering a sweet lead performance. After being set aside for other projects, “Wonderful Day” finally rounds off Big Lion Music’s seven-single run—from “Tell Me” to “Wanita”—a reggae journey that feels consistent, heartfelt, and deeply authentic.
