Dave Solution “Justice”

Dave Solution, the reggae sensation from Papua has released ‘Justice,’ his newest single. Slightly different from his signature style that always invites listeners to dance, this time he has a more serious tone. Despite of its sketchiness by not referring to a specific events, Dave ignites people’s curiosity to find out “what’s wrong with Papua?” This song inspires listeners to explore, understand, and empathize with the socio-political conditions in Papua. The anonymous criticism is characterized by Dave’s sarcastic lyrics questioning why justice and love are still something rare for Papuans? He calls out the echo of the crisis  with an elegiac chant“sye ayara iyara, fabye o…ai mama yoo, rasine mgokanes sye marandab bebye, sye nabye mura nabye o” (what a despair, it is so sad, crying in a deep grief, enough is enough) as a sign of ‘caution’ before everything becomes a tragedy.

Musically, sensitive ears will realize that the reggae vibes in this single is not a typical Indonesian and Papuan production. And it’s true because this ‘riddim’ is produced by a New Zealand producer: Canaan Ene. However, this international collaboration still has a local flavor through the use of regional language (Byak) and Bahasa in the lyrics. In addition, Dave still maintains his distinctive Papuan singing style.

The Papuan signature is also further strengthened through visual graphics featuring minimalist work of attractive cultural performance art. This MV was worked on by B Film DS Production by taking spots in Kali Biru, Byak Regency, Papua by also collaborating with two local dance studios namely Aimando and Mayowa.
