The Fiya of Reggae in Symphony of Papua

Erwin Gutawa, Indonesia’s great composer, held a big orchestra concert entitled ‘Symphony of Papua’ on August 27th in Istora Papua Bangkit Stadium in Jayapura. The first ever Erwin Gutawa’s concert on the island collaborated with Papua top singers and musicians like Edo Kondologit, Lala Suwages, Papua Original, Rio Grime, Nobo and Juanita. The concert was so peculiar because it blended orchestra music with Papua traditional song of various musical genres including reggae.

Accompanied by Dhira Band, Bill Tropiko and Boy de Sagoo were among the opening liners performing their songs ‘Welcome to Papua’ and ‘My Papua.’ While Dave Solution and Gorby, the two top reggae singers in Papua accompanied by Erwin Gutawa orchestra performing ‘Yayun Wambeso’, a song by Black Brothers, the legendary band of Papua. A lively suggestive performance with a little ragga style brought a new touch upon this old Papua traditional song, blazing a powerful spirit to the massive.
