This Canadian outfit consists of four friends who really adore ska. As they describe, the music of King Kong 4 is a set of music that was born from the fusion of early Elvis Costello‘s formulas to the infusion of “More Specials” by The Specials.
So far, they have poured this formula into several EPs from 2017 to 2018. This EP was later released on vinyl under the title “Punch It!” in 2020 by Jump Up Records. In November of the same year, they released another enchanted LP set entitled “Anything Can Happen, But Almost Nothing Will”.
Led by King Kong Girio (vocals, guitar, banjitar, pianet), this outfit began when Brendan Bauer (bass), Andrew McMullen (drums, percussion) and Ronald Poon (Hammond and Farfisa organs, upright piano) had finished their ‘journey’ in their respective music projects and agree to share their ideas into King Kong 4.
This Canadian ska quartet has a distinctive touch, both in the composition and the choice of uniquely various themes of their lyrics. They can write about anger and fear, then write about the glory at a party complete with a minimum sobriety as an impact of maximum bottles, how they see the future and also write the dynamics of the parent-child relationship. They convey the uniqueness of the theme of these lyrics in a dense yet thickened and deliciously finest Jamaican beat, they then convey it through chords and melody progressions that are fresh in King Kong 4’s ska repertoire.
