Jalie Gimbs

The journey of the Indonesian reggae scene is still rocking. Moreover, the massive movement of the scenesters managed to keep the local reggae vibe alive. One of the figures involved in this is Jalie Gimbs, a soloist who started his musical career in 1994.

Having settled in Riau, Jalie Gimbs formed a group called Defitrees in 2000 in Jakarta. This band brought the infusion of reggae, ska, punk and rock. In 2008, Defitrees released the LP “Pinggir Kali“. After this album was released, Jalie Gimbs returned to his adventure to Timika, Papua.

The leading reggae band from Merauke, Digoel, became the musical project for Jalie Gimbs while in Papua. His meeting with Steven Kaligis (Coconuttreez & Steven Jam) in 2010, created a new chapter of his music career by joining the Steven Jam and successfully producing the album “Penawar Rindu” in 2017.

As a soloist, Jali marked his career with “Beda Frekuensi” (2018) and “Suara di Balik Terali” (2019). During the pandemic, Jalie Gimbs again bring a fresh work, “Salam Untuk Kawan” (2021). The single also gave birth to the Reggae Emancipate Evolution (REVOLUTION) collective. This project is supported by Indonesian reggae scenesters, including Rival Himran (Coconuttreez), Richard D’Gilis, Joni Agung as well as music celebrities such as Raymond & Massto Sidharta with DIREK+.
