Mid 1990 was the starting point for the birth of a massive ska group in the country. Until 2000 ska was so popular in many corners of the country through the affair with many aspects of the national music industry and of course the support of the media, both printed and broadcasting at that time.
Various musical units come with their respective formulas, bringing assimilation or acculturation of ska music in Indonesia. One of the names that still exist today is the unit from East Jakarta, Escoret, which was formed on June 10, 1998.
One of the capital’s ska units has reformed their line up several times. Right now, Escoret are Febby Noya (vocals), Ganang (vocals & harmonica), Pieter (bass & backing vocals), Tony (lead guitar), Radit (keyboards) and Andri Tembonk (drums). Despite the line up change, they are still grooving with their common thread as well as their foundation since two decades ago. They remain loyal to the 2Tone-ish, Rocksteady and Ska’s repertoire.
From 1998 to 2022, their discography are LP “When The Beat Starts Heat” (2003) & “Don’t Ask” (2008), then EP (2012), single “Radio” (2018), and they also actively lend their works in various music projects in many music compilation albums. Lately, they released “Future Ambition” (2019), which came as a prelude to their next LP. As one of the music units that became the beginning of the birth of the country’s front ska unit and also one of Jakarta’s icons, this album which will be released soon, is certainly an interesting thing to wait.
